It is based on preventive action, the principle \u201cpolluter pays\u201d, fight against sources of environmental damage, shared responsibility and integration of environmental protection in other EU policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chapter 27 contains more than 200 legal acts that cover horizontal legislation, water and air quality, waste management, nature protection, industrial pollution control and risk management, chemicals and genetically modified organisms (GMOs), noise and forestry. Compliance with the environment acquis requires significant investments.
